As a significant hill station in the Nilgiri district, Kotagiri might be compared to Coonoor and Ooty. In many ways, it is the smallest of the three, but it is not the least in terms of atmosphere. Ralph Thomas Hotchkin Griffith, the son of a Christian missionary, began translating the Vedas into English from here. The hill station is noted for being a wonderful site for trekking adventures and is located at a towering elevation of 1793 metres above sea level. As a result, there are multiple walking trails that lead to various regions of the Nilgiris, many of which are still untouched by human development.
