The John Sullivan Memorial, established in the memory of John Sullivan, a British civil servant who recognised Ooty as a hill station, is a place where you may learn about the history of Kotagiri. This location was known as ‘Pethakal Bungalow’ while it was used as his dwelling. This memorial now houses Sullivan’s and his family’s belongings, as well as records and publications showing the role of the British in the Nilgiris and tribal culture. The location also serves as a Nilgiris Museum and Documentation Center (NDC). In the area, there is also a stone home, the Governments Art College, which was previously a residence of Sullivan in his senior years. The resort is 2 kilometres from Kotagiri.
